DETERMINATION OF PALLADIUM CONTENT FROM SAMPLE
OF
PALLADIUM (II) ACETATE/ PALLADIUM DI ACETATE
Take 1 gram of sample in a silica crucible. Ignite
it at 6000C 200C in a muffle furnace
for 5 to 6 hours. Transfer the ash of sample into a 250
ml beaker. Then add 5 ml of Formic acid. Evaporate
the Formic acid on hot plat to remove complete acid.
Add 10 ml of HCl and
2 ml of Nitric Acid dropwise to dissolve the Palladium
completely. Addition of Nitric acid should be done carefully.
Heat to expel all HNO3 acid. Dilute it with
D.M.Water. Filter it through 1 No. Filter paper into 250
ml volumetric flask Give the washing to filter paper and
make up the volume upto 250 ml. Now aliquote 50 ml in
duplicate into 500 ml of beakers. Add 100 ml of D.M.Water.
Heat on hot plate. Add 50 ml of 1% D.M.G. solution in
alcohol. Warm it for half an hour. Cauary Yellow ppt will
be formed.
Then filter the ppt through
tared G3 sintered glass crucible and wash the
ppt with hot D.M.Water. Dry the crucible in an oven at
1100C for two hours or till constant weight.
Cool the crucible in dessicator. Weigh the crucible and
calculate the weight of ppt by difference.
Calculation
31.67 x 250 x weight of Pd-DMG complex
Palladium Content =--------------------------------------------------------------------
